Cole, Tony
September 8th, 1953 - August 27th, 2016
It is with disbelief and great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved father Tony Cole on August 27th at the age of 62. He was cherished and will be forever missed by his children (Heather and Andrew Cole), sister Susan (David Lawson), companion Angora Lam, extensive family, friends and faith community.
Tony was born on September 8th, 1953 in Calgary, and grew up with his parents and sister Susan in Red Deer. The family moved back to Calgary in the 1970’s, where he went on to pursue degrees in both pure mathematics and law, incorporating these skills into his accounting certification. He and Wendy raised their two very precious children - Heather and Andrew. Tony was a long time employee of Talisman and recently has been a 5 year employee of Baytex in the role of Manager, Joint Venture Accounting. He enjoyed his job and everyone who had the privilege of working with him found him an absolute pleasure to work with…always calm, caring and focused.
Tony spent many of his days downhill skiing and was considered a near-professional by many. He had a love and appreciation for the great outdoors which he pursued throughout his life. Like his parents he loved to sail; like his sister he enjoyed a competitive game of tennis or squash and like his kids Tony loved a great day of skiing at Lake Louise. There are also many fond memories of Tony and the family spending time at the cabin on Sylvan Lake and at Ponderosa Point.
Tony was a Stones fan when everyone else loved the Beatles. Like most true fans, he loved Keith Richards the most and attended concerts all over the world during the past 20 years.
Tony also had a very strong devotion to his faith. His dedication to Central United Church and the Christian community has been repeatedly recognized and was evident to anyone who knew him.
These past few years have been particularly great for Tony. He has seen his two precious children find fulfillment in careers they are passionate about and he created a loving companionship with Angora.
The family would like to extend their appreciation to the hard-working staff at South Health Campus and Peter Lougheed Centre, who cared for Tony and his family while in hospital. Their tireless dedication and kindness made us feel more comfortable in a very difficult time.
Although he is gone much too soon, we know Tony's faith was strong and will serve him well.
Dad - we are so privileged to have had a father who loved and supported us unconditionally. Your care, dedication to family, generosity, kindness and bravery has shaped our lives. We will never forget you, and will miss you so dearly.
A Memorial Service will be held at Eden Brook Funeral Home on Sunday, September 11th at 2:00PM.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to World Vision Canada.
