It is with sadness we announce the passing of Lorne Grant of Calgary on Tuesday, September 27, 2016 at the age of 96 years. Lorne was born in Calgary and attended Springbank School. He joined the RCAF from 1940 -1945 and went overseas as an A Class Engine Mechanic. When serving overseas he was injured when a damaged plane crashed into the plane he was working on. Lorne spent time in hospital in England and later in the Colonel Belcher Hospital when he returned home. He later worked at Lincoln Park and then with the Calgary Public School Board. Lorne was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion for 72 years. He loved horses and was an outrider at the Calgary Stampede for 3 years. In 1948, Lorne met Lamaude Franklin at a dance and they were married on May 21, 1949 at her parent’s farm north of Cremona. Together, they enjoyed dancing and traveling. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Lamaude; sons, Dale, Bradley and daughter, Sharilyn (Steve) and grandsons, Anthony, Andrew and granddaughter, Natalie. He is predeceased by his parents, Edward and Esther; brothers, Edward and Earl as well as sisters: Barbara, Maxine and Shirley. A Memorial Gathering will be held at Eden Brook Funeral Home on Saturday, October 15, 2016 from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m.
