<div itemprop="description">EHRMANTRAUT, Gladys<br />November 17, 1930 &ndash; January 2, 2015<br /><br />It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Gladys Ehrmantraut, beloved mother, grandmother and member of the very exclusive (and self-described) &ldquo;Sheho Beauties&rdquo;. <br />Gladys was born on the family farm near Sheho Saskatchewan. She first attended Pohorlowitz School, then continued her education in Sheho. After graduating from business college, Gladys worked for the Department of Vital Statistics in Regina. <br />Gladys was enjoying an evening with friends at the popular Trianon Dancehall in Regina when the blue-eyed beauty caught the fancy of John Ehrmantraut. John immediately warned off all his buddies (and potential rivals) by declaring: &ldquo;She&rsquo;s for me!&rdquo; The pair were married a year later and a 63 year love affair had begun. <br />With two children in tow, Gladys and John relocated to Calgary, eventually settling on an acreage in the Pine Creek area south of the city. Gladys resumed her working career. She was a savvy business woman and became a respected member of the management teams at the companies where she was employed. <br />Gladys was the quintessential multi-tasker, juggling her career, family and building their acreage home. With John at her side, she swung a hammer with the best of them and used her creativity to design a home incorporating innovations many years ahead of their time. She was an excellent cook and was hostess to many extended family dinners as well as legendary house parties. She played the mandolin and sang harmony when a &ldquo;jam session&rdquo; inevitably broke out at these gatherings. She loved gardening and was a talented artist in oil painting, ceramics and needlepoint. <br />Gladys was struck with cancer in 1990 which left her paraplegic. A litany of other serious health issues ensued over the next 25 years. Gladys&rsquo; legacy is how she faced down each of these challenges with grace, optimism and an iron will. All who knew her were inspired by her strength and determination to make the most of the hand she was dealt. She regarded life as precious and demonstrated how we should take advantage of our own gifts and opportunities to the fullest each and every day. <br />Gladys was predeceased by her husband John in 2013. She is survived by her son Daryl (Marilyn) Ehrmantraut, daughter Shannon (Bob) Nardei, grandchildren Julie Ehrmantraut and Mark Nardei. <br />Family and friends will be received at St. Vladimir&rsquo;s Ukrainian Orthodox Church, 404 Meredith Rd. NE, Calgary on Thursday, January 8, 2015 at 7:00 p.m. Orthodox Right of Funeral will be held on Friday, January 9, 2015 at 1:00 p.m., commencing at St. Vladimir&rsquo;s Ukrainian Orthodox Church. <br /></div>
