JENKYNS, Una

On the evening of May 11, 2016, Una passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving caregivers. They had been her second family for the past eleven years. Una was now free from the challenges of Dementia which she had endured for many years and safe in the arms of her beloved husband of sixty-two years, Arthur, in their heavenly home.
For many years Una faced the challenges of Dementia with quiet strength. This strength was embodied by faith in her Saviour and she extended it to others through acts of kindness. Be it a listening ear, a sincere "thank you", or a gentle word of encouragement, she touched everyone with the strength of her warm hearted smile.
Rotary International awarded, to Una Jenkyns, the Paul Harris Fellow "in appreciation of the tangible and significant assistance given for the furtherance of better understanding and friendly relations among the peoples of the world". In addition, Una volunteered, for over 30 years, as a Cub Leader for the Boy Scouts, a typist, bookkeeper and supporter for Operation Eyesight Universal, and a caring community-minded citizen, at the Foothills Hospital Auxiliary, hand knitting baby outfits, registering newborns and more. Una was always available wherever help was most needed while, at the same time, raising five children.
She is survived by her loving and appreciative family. Her sister is Doreen Lockerbie. Her children are Tom (Janice McNab), Linda (Ron Matuska), Arleigh (Dave Stricker), Bill, Jim (Brenda Vickers); her grandchildren are Michael, Mark, Eleanor, Christine, Perry, Glenys, Jeff, Jocelyn, Julian, Bryan and Jeremy; her great grandchildren are Domingo, Francisco, Ava, Ryder, Joshua, Jace, Alyssa and Jackson.
A Celebration of Una's life will take place at Eden Brook Funeral Home (17th Avenue & Lower Springbank Road S.W.) on Friday, May 20, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. If so desired, memorial tributes may be made in Una's name directly to Operation Eyesight Universal, No. 4 Parkdale Crescent N.W., Calgary, AB T2N 3T8 or to the Alzheimer’s Society, 222 58 Ave SW #201, Calgary, AB T2H 2S3.
