Milos Soukup passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 24 at the age of 89, from complications following a stroke in 2008. Milos is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Josephine. He is also survived by his sons Paul and Alan, his daughter Lydia, his six grandchildren and his brother Vladimir Soukup. Milos was born on November 8, 1927 in Kostelec Nad Orlici, Czech Republic. In 1948 he escaped communist Czechoslovakia to freedom in the West. In 1951, he emigrated to Canada and completed his degree in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Toronto in 1954. He then moved west to Calgary where he began his career in pipeline engineering. Milos eventually opened his own company and designed and built pipelines in many parts of the globe, finally retiring in 1985. He was a true explorer and adventurer. An avid pilot, he flew single and twin engine aircraft around North America and down to South America, across to Europe and into Africa. Milos also had a great love for sailing, embarking on many voyages in the Mediterranean, across the Atlantic (twice), the Caribbean and the coast of British Columbia. Throughout his life, he spent considerable time hiking and skiing in the Canadian Rocky Mountains. The family would like to thank Margaret and the wonderful staff of the Beverly Centre Lake Midnapore (Shawnessy) for their compassionate, professional care over his last remaining years. In celebration of a life lived to the fullest, A Memorial Service will be held at Eden Brook Funeral Home on Friday, January 6, 2017 at 2:00PM. Interment to follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation.
