Ivan passed away in Kelowna, BC, on Monday, October 31, 2016. He will be sadly missed by his wife of 37 years, Birgit, his mother, Annelise Bohl, and brothers: Jens (Anna-Marta), Flemming (Inge), Calle (Inge), Hans (Wanda), Birgit's children: John Sorensen, Diana (Darrell) Kary and seven grandchildren. Also left to mourn are Birgit's sisters and brothers and their families, as well as many good friends in Denmark as well as in Canada. Ivan was predeceased by his father Johannes.
Ivan was born and raised in Helberskov, Denmark. He apprenticed and worked as a plumber, and he served as a "Royal Danish Guard". He immigrated to Canada in 1974 where he continued his plumbing career. Ivan started his own business, "North Star Plumbing and Heating, which he operated successfully until his retirement in 2007. He and Birgit moved to Kelowna where he enjoyed his early retirement, boating, fishing, traveling as well as riding his motorcycle, and his favorite pastime, making homemade wine.
A Memorial Service will be held in the Chapel of Eden Brook Funeral Home on Thursday, November 24, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. Donations may be made in Ivan’s memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation (www.heartandstroke.ab.ca).
