<div itemprop="description">FUMI FUJIWARA (nee MASUDA) <br>June 9, 1918 – August 13, 2016 <br>It is with sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, Fumi Fujiwara, unexpectedly on Saturday, August 13th, 2016 at the age of 98. Fumi was born in Vancouver, the eldest of four children. At the age of three she returned to Japan to live with her Grandparents until returning to Canada at the age of ten. Fumi was married to Koichi Fujiwara in 1941 and they were married for 56 years. She was a dedicated wife and mother and for many years helped support the family through various housekeeping and babysitting jobs. She is lovingly remembered by her children: Fred, Sally Urban Cooley, Fran (Len) Esler, Mary (Ken Morgan); her grandchildren: Marc (Laurel) Holmes, John (Lisa) Urban and Thomas (Renata) Fujiwara and her great grandchildren: Alexia Wolf and Julia Fujiwara. Fumi is also survived by nieces: Sachiko and Machiko Okada of Hikone, Japan and nephew Jiro Masuda of Michigan. Fumi was predeceased by her husband, Koichi in 1997, and by her siblings, Hikoo, Tsuneo and Miyo. Fumi was a member of the Calgary Buddhist Temple, Calgary Japanese Community Association and an Honorary Member of the Calgary Kotobuki Club. She was outspoken and not hesitant to offer an opinion. She was also well known for her apple pies, butter tarts and homemade buns. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, August 27, 2016 at 10:30 am at the Calgary Buddhist Temple (658 – 1st Avenue NE) Calgary, AB. Parking is available across the street at Langevin School parking lot (107 6A St. NE) Calgary.</div>
