<div itemprop="description">Elizabeth Frances Mawdsley<br /><br />21 October 1931 &ndash; 4 April 2016<br /><br />Beth was born in Winnipeg, but grew up and completed her education in Edmonton. She graduated from Strathcona High School before studying nursing at the University of Alberta, where she received both her RN and BSc. <br />While at the U of A, Beth met Jim Mawdsley, who became the love of her life. Upon graduation they married and moved to Calgary, where they raised their family and spent many happy years together. Beth initially worked as a public health nurse. After taking a break to raise her family, Beth worked many years as a psychiatric nurse at the Calgary General Hospital. <br />Beth was devoted to her family and put every effort into supporting the education and personal growth of her children and grandchildren. The family spent much happy time in the Rocky Mountains hiking, camping, and skiing. Beth also loved the arts. She and Jim were longstanding supporters of Theatre Calgary and the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra.<br />Beth was predeceased by her husband Jim. She is survived by her children Michael (Margo Ross), John (Lisa Brattland), Marilyn (Jim Pullishy), and her grandchildren Peter, Amy, Clio, Jake, and Michael. Beth is also survived by her sister Florence Dickson, her brothers John and Rick Gilmour and their families.<br />The family is grateful for the wonderful care Beth received at Brentwood Care Centre and the Peter Lougheed Hospital.<br />A memorial service will be held at 1pm on Saturday April 16 at the Lakeview United Church, 3023- 63 Ave. S.W., Calgary, where Beth and Jim were founding members.<br />In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Elizabeth to the Lakeview United Church, 3023 63rd Ave. S.W. Calgary, AB T3E 5J6.<br /></div>
