Wilfred Arthur LaRoche
October 18, 1923 - February 8, 2016
LAROCHE – Mr. Wilfred “Pappy” Arthur LaRoche passed away at the Foothills Hospital on Monday, February 8, 2016 at the age of 92 years.
“Pappy” was born on October 18, 1923, the oldest of thirteen children born in Chalk River, Ontario to Arthur and Aurore LaRoche. “Pappy” was a career soldier. He served in World War II (Canadian Artillery and 1st Canadian Parachute Battalion), Korean War (1 PPCLI), Germany (1 PPCLI), Egypt (UN Peacekeepers), Cyprus (UN Peacekeepers), and ended his career as an instructor to various militia units in Alberta and Yukon. Upon his military retirement in 1972, “Pappy” worked for Alberta Corrections for fourteen additional years after which he ‘officially’ retired.
“Pappy” will be lovingly remembered by his children; Jim (Darlene), Wayne (Joan), Carla, Ron (Nancy), Michele (Norm Cobb); Grandchildren; Christopher, Jessica, Jaclyn, Janelle, Alaina. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 51 years, Teresa, on March 27, 2001.
Friends and family are invited to pay their respects on Friday, February 12, 2016 from 9:00 am to 10:00 am. Funeral Services will be held at Eden Brook Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home, 17 Ave SW and Lower Springbank Road, Calgary, AB on Friday, February 12, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. Graveside Services to follow in the Field of Honour at Eden Brook Memorial Gardens. If friends so desire, memorial tributes in memory of “Pappy” may be made directly to the Calgary Poppy Fund of which he was a volunteer.
The family expresses their sincere thanks to the DAL staff at the Colonel Belcher and the medical staff at FMC Emergency.
