Thomas Field
July 8, 1924 - April 29, 2014
Thomas Field, one of four children, was born in Clapham, England on July 8, 1924. Thomas met the love of his love, Joy Holden in 1946 in a shoe store in Worthing, England. They were married on September 1, 1951 in Holy Trinity Church in Worthing, Sussex, England. Thomas and Joy had two children in England, Phillip and Susan.
A painter and decorator by trade, Thomas enjoyed the greenery and pubs of his beloved England. In order to make a better life for his children, he and Joy decided to immigrate to Canada; they arrived in Montreal, Quebec on June 13, 1957. After a four-day journey by train, Thomas, Joy, Phillip and Susan arrived in Calgary, Alberta. Settling in Bowness, Thomas resumed his career as a painter and had three more children, Jane, Patricia and Cathy.
Thomas was devoted to his family, his church and his community. He loved to walk his dog by the Bow River, work in his garden and bake in the sun. In his later years, he enjoyed making wine, read, and paint pictures. A proud Canadian, Thomas loved to have family picnics in the mountains of Alberta and visit the many small towns in which he had worked as a painter.
Thomas was well known for his smile and his easy manner. A gentle and effusive man, Thomas touched the hearts of many people in his journey through this life.
