DAVIES, Robert “Bob” William
October 20, 1927 – October 2, 2016

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Robert William Davies, at the age of 88. Bob passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 2, 2016, at Agape Hospice, Calgary, following a brave battle with cancer.
Born October 20, 1927 in North Battleford, Saskatchewan, Bob was the youngest of the four children of Claudius Charles (C.C.) Davies (born in Bracknell, England) and Edna Louise Ralston (of Vaughn, Ontario).
The family grew up on the farm, where life was hard, but fulfilling. His father was a stalwart of the community, involved in politics as a member of Parliament from 1921 to 1925, and whose business ethics and leadership qualities were passed on to Bob.
Bob was a hardworking man never afraid to take on a new challenge or seek out a new adventure. He made his mark in a successful career in home building, real estate and property management that spanned six decades. He established Riteway Construction and Davies Homes, where he built 300 homes in Calgary, including the first Calgary Stampede Dream Home. This started a half century of involvement as a volunteer with the Calgary Stampede. He also volunteered during the 1988 Winter Olympics. Bob was a member of CHBA and founding member of the Canadian Condominium Institute, Calgary Winter Club, and the Silver Springs Golf and CC.
He started Equity Capital Management and Realty in 1974 and went on to establish companies including Condominium First Management Services and CA Management Services. Condominium First was a leader in condominium management in Alberta and his children and grandchildren were involved in the business - one of Bob’s proudest accomplishments.
Bob’s favourite pastimes were hiking, golf, attending Flames and Stampeders games and travelling - he visited an incredible 82 countries, taking extensive professional-quality photographs everywhere he went. He often said the best trip ever was his life - a joyous adventure from start to finish.
Bob was predeceased by his parents, C.C. and Edna Davies, his siblings: Thomas, Edith Rowland and Charles Jr.; his son-in-law George Aposkitis and his grandson baby John Robert Brodie.
He will be lovingly remembered by his children: Brenda Davies-Aposkitis; Douglas; Donald (Val); Irene (Brian) Brodie; Roger (Bev); 14 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren, and Colleen Clancy, his companion of more than two decades.
Bob touched everyone in his life with his quick wit and mischievous sense of humour. He will always be remembered as a true role model in all aspects of life.
The family wishes to give special thanks to the staff at Agape Hospice, Comfort Keepers and Alberta Health Services for their compassionate care of our Dad.

A Celebration of a Life well lived will be held on Tuesday, October 11th at 2:00 pm. at Eden Brook Funeral Home (corner of 17th Avenue SW and Lower Springbank Road).
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made via cheque to the Calgary Home Builders Foundation. ‘In Memory of Bob Davies’ donation # 118823608 (#100 7326 10 Street NE Calgary T2E 8W1).
