Muszynski, Olga (nee Olszewska)
January 1, 1930 - Elowka, Belarus
June 2, 2016 - Calgary, Alberta

Olga’s great and brave heart was suddenly stilled on Thursday, June 2, 2016 at the age of 86 years. While Parkinson's robbed Olga of her mobility, and then her voice in the last few years, her infectious smile and grace of spirit remained ever so bright. Olga overcame immense tragedy and adversity in her younger years escaping the ravaging of her village and death of her father Karp during WWII. As a displaced person at the end of the war, she left from Wiesbaden, Germany for a new life of opportunity in Canada. Olga chose Calgary as her final destination working first as a nanny and then at the Tom Baker Sanatorium. It was while attending social functions in the burgeoning Polish community that she met, and eventually married, a dashing soldier named Wladyslaw Muszynski. This was only after he agreed to her demand for four children and sponsoring her family to Canada. He kept both promises. Mama and Tata were heavily involved in the Polish Canadian Association and the Our Lady Queen of Peace Polish Parish for many years and together they built a strong and faith-filled family and a fierce circle of friends. Those friends included the Krokosinskis, Francowskis, Ploszaks, Niewinskis, Jelineks, Fioleks, Czenczeks, Rogalskis, Derwichs, and more. Oh, many a table was set and many a glass was raised in toast and song over the years. Olga’s passion was opera and after being taught how to drive at a late age she bought a car so she could attend the Calgary Opera with her daughters. Olga also worked at Woodwards for many years achieving accolades for her exemplary customer service. Olga's indomitable spirit lives on in her four daughters: Aniela Rzewuski (Franek), Irena Ratz, Maria Muszynski, and Helen Muszynski (Timothy Hines); five grandchildren: Kristopher Rzewuski (Stacey), Celina Ratz-Ross (Dan), Stefan Rzewuski (Audra), Marek Ratz (Duong), Karmen LaPlace (Dave) and five great grandchildren: Katja, Darien, Sofia, Zara and Tahlia. She is also survived by her sister, Sonia Kok; brother, Victor Olshevski and numerous nieces and nephews in Calgary, Winnipeg, U.S.A., Poland and Belarus. Olga was predeceased by her husband of 35 years, Wladyslaw (1986); step-father, Stefan Szpaler (1993) and mother, Maria (2003) and brother, Ivan Olszewski (2007). Prayers will be held at St. Patrick's Catholic Church (1414 Shawnessy Blvd S.W.) on Tuesday June 14, 2016 at 6:00 p.m. Funeral Mass to be celebrated on Wednesday, June 15, 2016 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow at Eden Brook Memorial Gardens (17th Avenue & Lower Springbank Road S.W.) If so desired, in memory of Olga, please consider an act of Divine Mercy or a donation in Olga’s name to research supporting Parkinson’s or mental health initiatives.
