BAXTER, Margaret Joy (nee Verge)
August 1, 1927 – April 27, 2015

It is with gratitude for a long life, well lived, that we announce the passing of our mother Margaret Joy Baxter. She passed peacefully after a brief illness. In her final days she was surrounded by loving family and friends. Joy was predeceased by her father, Joseph William Verge; mother, Margaret Devine Verge, brother, Robert William Verge (Royle); nephew, Wayne Verge; great-nephew, David Abrecht and far too many cherished friends. She is survived, and will be missed by: sons, Daniel Lorne Baxter (Margot Willox) and David Verge Baxter (Beth); daughter, Lori Joy Baxter, and former daughter-in-law and dear friend, June Ellen Baxter; former husband, John Lorne Baxter (Marg); grandchildren: Derek Lorne Baxter (Sam Fisher), Shannon Carol Baxter (Halley Szeto), Graeme Martin Baxter, Eva Joy Baxter, Angela Rosemary Baxter, and Rebecca Grace Baxter; cousin, Evelyn Anne McDougall and family; nephew and honorary son, Rudy Abrecht (Michelle); nephews, Gary Abrecht (M'El), and Stephen Abrecht (Janet Shenk); nieces, Susan Joyet (Michel) and Gail Dowling (Leonard); honorary granddaughter, Caroline Abrecht Lesage (Jerome) and 6 other great-nieces and nephews; 15 great-great-nieces and nephews; and many devoted friends. A native Calgarian, Joy graduated from the University of Alberta with a BA in Psychology, and formed life-long friendships with her Tri-Delt sisters. After focusing on raising her family, she returned to university to study her passion in painting, graduating with a BFA (with Distinction) from University of Calgary. She was a long time member, and one time president, of the Calgary Women's Literary Club and a proud member of the GOOWOOs. Joy was happiest when surrounded by her family and friends, followed closely by her time in her studio. We would like to thank Amy, Bailey, Ji, Mark, Tawni and all the staff in Unit 47 of the Rockyview Hospital for making her final days so peaceful. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Canadian Hard of Hearing Association or a charity of your choice. A celebration of Joy's life will take place at the Glencoe Club (636 29th Avenue – West Room ) on June 12, 2015 at 3:00 p.m.
