Margaret Alice Fugmann
July 29, 1932 - March 31, 2016
Margaret Alice Fugmann (nee Sewell) born July 29, 1932 passed away at home surrounded by her family, on March 31st, 2016. She is survived by her soul mate and loving husband Otto Fugmann. Margaret and Otto have four daughters Karen (John) Fee, Lynne Fugmann (Carmen Hansen), Diana
(Raymond) Turner, Sherri (Patrick) Moynahan and adopted daughter Lisa Hartman (Andre Kunda); five Grandchildren Christopher (Cindy) Fugmann, Jason (Samantha) Fee, Lorene Fee (Billy Faraj), Chelsea Moynahan, Ryan Hartman; two great grandchildren Eden Fugmann and Jacob Fee. She is also survived by her loving sister Donna (Ronald) Hannaford and their children Brian (Jo) Hannaford, Debbie (Rich) Shannon and their children Samara and Trinity Shannon.
Marg was predeceased by her parents Dot (Margaret) and Samuel Sewell and her great nephew Eric Shannon.
Margaret was born in Edmonton Alberta, eight weeks early and weighing only 2 lbs, 2 oz. No one thought she would live, but as she always did, amazed everyone with her strength and stubbornness.
Her father worked in the oil patch and they moved to Black Diamond and then to Trinidad and Venezuela. She always talked about the fun times they had there.
Margaret worked in banking and book keeping throughout her life. She had a real memory for numbers. Never did she forget a phone number.
In March of 1955 she met the “Love of her life”, Otto, when they were both working at the Arthur Murray Dance studio. And oh how they could dance!
They were married on April 14th, 1956.
Marg was a “social butterfly” and will be remembered for her wonderful laugh, love of life and spending time with her family and friends.
Anyone that had the privilege to know or meet her would tell you she was one of the most calming, accepting, lovable, understanding and strong women you would ever know. She accepted everyone without judgement and unconditional love, and usually within a very short time referred to her as Mom or Grandma. Everyone loved her.
Some of her favourite things to do were, talk on the phone, listen to music, go to concerts, camping, playing games watching figure skating and of course watch curling, she loved her curling.
Thirty six years ago Marg and Otto bought a little place at Tall Timbers Holiday Park on Sproat Lake; located on Vancouver Island, BC. Every year they would head out for holidays extending their time as they could. Starting about February she would always say “I can’t wait to get out to the lake”. Once Otto retired they would try to be there from May to October. While at the lake they loved to play games with their multitude of friends such as cribbage, wahoo, rummy 3000 (which the family changed to what’s wild 3000), dominos and many many more. Most afternoons you would find her playing mini golf and then of course had to go to where happy hour was taking place. Swimming in the lake brought mom great peace and happiness, and we enjoyed that with her on many occasions.
Margaret's home and trailer were filled with pictures of family and friends. There was never enough room for them all. In 2014 her daughter Diana gave them an original iPad. As usual she picked it up extremely fast. It was all she needed to add more pictures to her collection. The cloud was not big enough. She also loved using it to play games, emailing with people and texting with her family. The first time she used LOL, her granddaughter said “Grammy you do realize that stands for laugh out loud” her response was “to me it means lots of love so you can just deal with it”. She loved to use emoji’s, at the end of her texts. We will miss those text messages. After using the old one for a year and hearing Otto (dad) say “When do I get to use it”, the family decided to buy a new up-to-date iPad. She then learned how to FaceTime and set-up a Facebook account to keep track of everybody’s activities and loved being able to get many many more pictures of her family.
So for someone who was not even supposed to live past being born she had 83 amazing years and proved all doctors wrong. She will be greatly missed.
