Lucille (Lou) Porth
February 5, 1917 – February 22, 2016

With her family gathered around her, our dear Mother and Grandmother passed away peacefully on February 22, 2016 at the age of 99 years. Lou was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who will always be remembered for her unfailing kindness and generosity of spirit, her gentle sense of humour, and the unconditional love she showed her family and friends. Lou will be sadly missed by her daughters, Beverley (Tom Cook) and Sheryl (Dave Olson); granddaughters, Thera Cook, Heather (Mark Cullen), Yvonne Sterrenberg and Heather (Jeff Garland); and great grandsons Brett, Scott, Jack and Alfie. Lou was predeceased by Edward, her husband of 60 years, in 1999.

For the majority of their married life, Lou and Ed lived in Winnipeg. During these years, Lou was a loyal member of John Black Memorial United Church and a longtime Hudson’s Bay employee with more than 25 years of service. In 1994, Lou and Ed moved to Calgary to be closer to their family. In Calgary, Lou attended Ogden United Church and was an avid knitter at the Ogden Seniors Club’s Craft Group. She knitted scarves and toques for Inn from the Cold, afghans for the church, and her volunteer work for Blankets 4 Canada was recognized.

We would like to express our sincere gratitude to the nurses, in particular Liway, and caregivers at Southwood Care Centre who provided Lou with so much care and support during her final years.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
