Karen Heather Ilg
August 18, 1967 - November 28, 2014
Ilg, Karen Heather (nee Smorang)
August 18, 1967 – Winnipeg, Manitoba
November 28, 2014 – Calgary, Alberta
Karen Ilg, beloved wife of Victor Ilg, and mother of Jeffrey and Daniel passed away peacefully on Friday, November 28, surrounded by loved ones. She is survived by her mother, Gloria; father, Lawrence (and wife Mary); sister, Linda; brother, David (and wife Lisa); nephew, Matthew; niece, Grace as well as extended family. Karen was first and foremost devoted to her family and loved spending as much time as possible with them. However, she also treasured the love and support of her wonderful friends. Everyone who knew Karen knew a warm-hearted, caring, intelligent woman. Karen was a very active person, enjoying various activities such as hiking, biking, camping, backpacking, skiing and watching her boys play hockey. Karen was also an active volunteer, being a hockey team manager for several of her boy’s hockey teams. In her professional career, she was a Speech Language Pathologist, working with pre-school children helping them to overcome their difficulties. Our family would like to extend a special thanks to all the medical personnel who have supported her in the last 2-1/2 years for their professionalism and compassion. Karen was a strong, courageous woman who especially demonstrated how one could “live well with cancer”. A Memorial Service will be held in the Chapel of Eden Brook Funeral Home on Friday, December 5, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Karen’s name directly to the Alberta Cancer Foundation, Tom Baker Cancer Centre, www.albertacancer.ca.
