Rogowski, Jack Lawrence – May 21, 1927 – Tuesday, September 6, 2016

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Jack Lawrence Rogowski, beloved husband of Stella, in Calgary on Tuesday, September 6, 2016 at the age of 89. He was a loving father to Jacklynn and son-in-law Chris and grandfather to his pride and joy grandson’s Noah & Jonah. Jack is survived by his sisters Marie and Helen and is predeceased by his parents, brothers Henry and Ted and sisters Antonia and Anne. Jack’s greatest passion was his family.

Jack was born in Korzelice, Lwow, Poland in 1927. With his parents, John and Theresa Rogowski and four siblings, Jack journeyed to Canada by ship then to Saskatchewan by train and by buggy in May of 1929 to begin a new life. Jack lived and farmed with his parents and six brothers and sisters near Kelvington, SK. He received his education and farmed until 1958, when Jack sold the farm and moved to Regina to train as a barber and hairstylist. After receiving his journeyman’s certificate, Jack purchased Murphy’s Barbershop. Later, he owned Avord Tower Hairstyling and then Pro-Cut. Jack was also active in the profession as President of the Barbering and Haircutting Association in Regina.

In 1959, Jack met the love of his life, Stella Bernice Kruk and was married in St. Hedwig’s Catholic Church in Brandon, MB in June of 1961. In January of 1966, Jack and Stella greeted their only beautiful daughter Jacklynn into the world. Jack lived with Stella in Regina for 45 years but moved to Calgary in 2003 to be closer to his grandchildren. He also served on the Board of Directors as Treasurer at Legacy Patterson Estates.

Jack participated in the Catholic Church throughout his life; he ushered at Blessed Sacrament Church and Christ the King Church in Regina and at Sacred Heart Church in Calgary. He was also active in the Knights of Columbus and received his 4th Degree Honour on June 6, 1998 at a special ceremony with the Knights of Columbus at Blessed Sacrament Church in Regina. The Knights of Columbus Honour Guard will celebrate Jack’s life and religious commitment at his funeral.

Jack had great pride in his beautiful yard and garden for many decades. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, eating and travelling. Most of all, he loved fancy cars and driving them! Jack drove through six Canadian provinces and 35 United States. He also loved Christmas in Hawaii with his family to get away from the cold Canadian winters. In 2001, Jack returned to his homeland and toured Poland with Stella for two amazing weeks in the beautiful Polish countryside.

One of the greatest highlights of Jack’s life was walking his daughter down the aisle to marry Christopher Holmes in 1999 and later becoming a grandpa. In January 2002, Jack became a grandfather for the first time to Noah and then again in July of 2004 to Jonah, who arrived on Canada Day. He was so proud of the boys; they were the light of his life!

A memorial mass celebrating Jack’s life will be held at St. Michaels Catholic Church - 800 – 85th Street SW - celebrated by Reverend John Nemanic on Friday, September 16, 2016 at 1 PM with lunch to follow. His cremated ashes will be inurned at Sacred Heart Columbarium in a private family ceremony at a later date.

Donations can be made in Jack’s name to the Canadian Diabetes Association or the Canadian Cancer Society.
