Gene passed away peacefully March 16 at the Southwood Hospice. Gene was born in Bedford Township, Ontario. Gene was predeceased by his wife Violet, his parents, George and Lena, and brother Kenny. Gene is survived by his step daughter, Cathy (Grant) Jones; grandchildren: Ryan (Amy) Jones, Erica (Lorn) Berry of Airdrie; great-grandchildren: Eric, Nora and Owen; brother Don(Bonnie) Garrett of Westport, Ontario; sisters Gayle (Tom) Nellenback of Lowville, New York, USA; Jewel (Lyle) Truelove of Perth, Ontario. He will also be missed by nephew Monty Becker from Sherwood Park, Alberta; as well as numerous nieces and nephews; his loving friend, Christine Gieck and loyal dog Pepper.
Gene worked for the Calgary School Board as a caretaker for 18 years, and was a friend of Bill W. In his retirements years he enjoyed his friendship with his neighbors, volunteering his time and services to others.
A Celebration of Gene’s Life will be held at First Alliance Church, 12345 40 St SE, Calgary, AB. Today, March 21, 2016 at 2:30 p.m. Donations may be made to Ronald McDonald House-SA; 111 West Campus Pl. NW Calgary, AB. T3B 2R6. A special thank-you to the staff at the Southwood Hospice for their professional and compassionate care.
