<div itemprop="description">BRITTON - Frederick James<br />August 16, 1932 - September 12, 2014<br /><br />Fred passed away on Friday, Sept 12, 2014 at the Rockyview Hospital after a brief illness with his wife Patricia at his side. Fred was born in Headingly, Manitoba in 1932. At the age of 20 Fred packed up his belongings in his old Ford and headed west, first settling in Vancouver where he met and married Pat in 1958.<br /><br />His many long years working with the Bechtel Corporation as a procurement manager took him to jobsites throughout the world including Kuwait, Egypt, England and Ireland as well as various locations in Canada. Fred and Pat took up residence in Calgary while working with Bantrel until his retirement. They enjoyed traveling and entertaining their numerous family wherever they lived.<br /><br />Fred was a great lover of sports. He was an avid curler as a member of the Vancouver Curling Club and the Garrison Curling Club. Fred was a member of the 1964 World Curling Championship team and was inducted into both the Canadian Curling Hall of Fame and the British Columbia Sports Hall of Fame. After retiring from work he was very active as a volunteer and Board Member of the Garrison Curling Club, receiving recognition for his services.<br /><br />With his golf membership at Redwood Meadows he enjoyed many games with his friends and golf partners. He always looked forward to being with his &quot;buddies&quot; at the annual tournaments in Jasper and Invermere as a means of keeping in touch with his friend he met through work in Edmonton.<br /><br />Along with his wife Patricia, Fred leaves to mourn his brother, Bill (Brenda); sister, Freda, nieces, Laurie and Heather (Mike) and nephew, Tom; along with numerous grand nieces, grand nephews and cousins. Also mourning his passing is his sister-in-law Marian and brothers-in-law: Richard, Alan and Nelson. He was predeceased by his parents Frederick and Doris and sister, Jeannie.<br /><br />Fred's kindness and generosity endeared him to all, he will be greatly missed.<br />In lieu of flowers, please make a memorial donation in Fred&rsquo;s name directly to a charity of your choice. <br /><br />A Memorial Reception will be held at Eden Brook Funeral Home on Sunday, September 21, 2014 from 1:00 &ndash; 4:00 p.m. Tributes begin at 1:00 p.m. please bring you favorite story or memory of Fred to share. <br /><br /></div>
