Ethel Fern Shankland
June 21, 1928 - March 28, 2017
Shankland, Ethel Fern (nee) Mostow
June 21, 1928 - Welwyn, Saskatchewan
March 28, 2017 - Calgary, Alberta
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ethel "Fern” Shankland on Tuesday, March 28, 2017 at the age of 88 years. When she was born she weighted under a pound and became a fighter from that day on. Fern overcame some health issues through the years with the support of the love of her life Campbell "Cam". In 1953, Fern was hired as a secretary at Canadian Pacific Airlines where she crossed Cam's path and he was instantly smitten. They were inseparable from then on. She later worked as a secretary for AADAC where she retired. Cam and Fern spent their summers on a piece of property they bought on Kootenay Lake in B.C. Fern is survived by her loving husband Campbell of 63 years, and daughters Kluane Claiter and Stacy Shankland. She is predeceased by her parents Michael and Mabel Mostow, step-mother Laura and sister Vina Gray. In keeping with Fern’s wishes, a private family service will be held at a later date. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to Sarcee Carewest, 3504 Sarcee Rd. S.W., Calgary, AB, T3E 4T4. We ask those who knew and loved Fern to take a moment and have a glass of wine and remember a time you shared with her and celebrate her life. Many thanks to all the staff at Sarcee Carewest, from day one Fern was treated with love and respect from everyone she had contact with. This was particularly evident in her final days.
